We all understand how important exercise is for the body, mind, and spirit. What many do not realize is that if you are chronically ill, injured, sleep-deprived, on a caloric restrictive diet, it’s possible for you to be overtraining at a much lower level of physical activity. The consequences can have a profound impact on your overall health and wellbeing.
From the competitive runner, cyclist, exercise enthusiast that does CrossFit, weight training, high-intensity interval training, or the weekend warrior participating in a Tough Mudder all are at potential risk for overtraining.
It doesn’t take much to be on a downward spiral. It is estimated that 61% of all serious runners go through a period of overtraining in their career.
Increase Performance
Keep your body optimized to perform at peak levels for longer periods of time without becoming fatigued.
Decrease Recovery Time
Stimulate proper healing quicker so your body rejuvenates and is ready to go sooner than ever.
Avoid Injuries
Stay healthy and avoid common injuries that hold back performance and keep you from competing at a high level.
The key to recovery is to reduce or stop anything more than moderate physical activity for some time. How long depends on symptoms severity and how long you’ve been overtraining. Focus on gentle activities for recovery such as walking in nature, yoga, or massage. Address any underlying stress-induced HPA-Axis dysregulation, inflammation, gut dysbiosis, nutrient depletion, hormone imbalances, and oxidative stress. Get plenty of sleep and nap during the day. Ensure you do not restrict calories or diet once overtrained. Your body needs an adequate supply of macronutrients especially protein and micronutrients.
What is Overtraining Syndrome / Burnout?
Overtraining syndrome occurs when an athlete doesn’t adequately recover after repetitive intense training, and can include fatigue, declining performance and potential injury. It’s admirable to train hard to succeed in your chosen sport. Logging many miles, spending hours at the gym and working hard day after day can certainly help you achieve your athletic goals. But too much training without sufficient recovery can hinder your progress — and even lead to a decline in your performance.
There are two classifications for too much exercise: overreaching and overtraining.
Overreaching is muscle soreness above and beyond what you typically experience that occurs when you don’t sufficiently recover between workouts. Overreaching usually happens after several consecutive days of hard training and results in feeling run down. Luckily, the effects of overreaching can be easily reversed with rest.
Overtraining occurs when an athlete ignores the signs of overreaching and continues to train. Many athletes believe that weakness or poor performance signals the need for even harder training, so they continue to push themselves. This only breaks down the body further.
Symptoms and warning signs of overtraining
It may be hard to know when you’re overtraining. “It’s natural and expected to feel fatigued after challenging training sessions,” Dr. Goolsby says. “But feeling like you aren’t recovering between sessions or experiencing overall fatigue and difficulty pushing yourself during workouts can be indicators of overtraining.”
Training-related signs of overtraining
Unusual muscle soreness after a workout, which persists with continued training
Inability to train or compete at a previously manageable level
“Heavy” leg muscles, even at lower exercise intensities
Delays in recovery from training
Performance plateaus or declines
Thoughts of skipping or cutting short training sessions
Lifestyle-related signs of overtraining
Prolonged general fatigue
Increase in tension, depression, anger or confusion
Inability to relax
Poor-quality sleep
Lack of energy, decreased motivation, moodiness
Not feeling joy from things that were once enjoyable

Dr. Aaron is absolutely the best Chiropractor. I have a service connected disability and was formerly being treated by the VA. Dr. Aaron is kind, attentive, and thorough. He is genuinely interested in the well being of his patients. I highly recommend him to anyone who is looking for excellent chiropractic treatment.
Doc Aaron is very knowledgeable. Explains things well. Only place we could find that still does actual adjustments and corrective care. Bear chiropractic has kept me from having to have back surgery and got me back to work. The office is clean, everyone is very professional and flexible scheduling is absolutely great. This is the only place I trust.
Bear Chiropractic saved me! Needed back pain care quickly and they fit me right in and I am back to feeling amazing with a proactive care program in place for further needs! So personable! LOVE❤️
When I came here I didn’t know what to expect. I had went kricked and was in a lot of pain. Dr Aron had responded to my questions and I was able to get in the same day. He evaluated me with adjustment. The next day we went over treatment plan and X-rays . Amazing customer service. Jackie was very pleasant as being the face you see upon entering. She is very sweet and patient and there to help in anyway she can. Overall extremely happy with my decision!

Dr Aaron and his staff do a wonderful job you feel comfortable from day one. Also accommodating schedule compared to most offices. This is my 4th office I’ve tried in 3 years and finally wound a home.
I have been using Bear Chiropractic for over 2 years now and love it here. The staff if friendly and puts your needs first! Great place to go for your back and hip issues.
Every member of the staff is very kind and welcoming. Dr Aaron is always talking sports with everybody putting them in a good mood. Every time I am here it seems that Dr Aaron has a great relationship with everyone. I have been telling many people to go here if they need a chiropractor!
Always a great experience coming to Bear. Great bed side manners all the way around. Also, answers all questions when asked. Have been coming here for about a year,, probably slightly longer.
3 years and I am still excited to stop in and get tuned up! They were very happy and tried to be flexible with getting me examined. I’m hoping that I keep feeling better in the following weeks
I have been going here for a few years. Not only are they kind and helpful, but the clinical care is expertly geared to my specific needs. Additionally, as a veteran, they work really hard with the VA to make sure all my authorizations are done to reduce lapse in care!
Update 3/22/26: I am still a loyal Bear customer, and since my 2023 review, I have gotten e-stim and graston done in the office as well as the usual traction and adjustments. I am able to be seen every time despite my schedule changing often, and I enjoy the staff and interactions with regular customers. They have also updated furniture and paint to make the office feel comfortable. It’s a good vibe and a good experience here at Bear every time.

Update 5/9/2023: I continue to use the services at Bear, and as of my last review they have expanded their team. I have continued to enjoy the insoles I bought, and I have had some new issues rise up that Dr. Aaron helped with, by setting up a care plan and using additional techniques such as graston. The team continues to offer solutions to my needs. Thank you!

Update 6/7/2022: I have since been to the office many a time - I’ve undergone a treatment plan with Dr. Aaron, gotten massages from Ashley, and have purchased insoles. Every appointment and transaction has been seamless and the interpersonal experience has been fantastic. Can’t recommend this place enough.

Original Review: Thank you to the team at Bear chiro. I had an appointment with them the other day and felt listened to and taken care of. The process of care makes sense and the examination and adjustment thorough. I will be continuing care there from now on.
I love coming into this office by far turned into my favorite day of the week. The dr. Is very knowledgeable takes time to explain everything being done and why. Since coming works been an ease esp doing flooring it can be long days or a sore body. I recommend coming in for everyone esp if ur in any type of skilled trades.
Dr. Aaron is AMAZING. After a bad past experience causing me to avoid chiropractic care for 6 years, I was recommended here. I was super nervous to get back into it, especially for my hips, neck, and TMJ, but he made it so comfortable and easy. He really listens, explains everything, and makes you feel totally at ease.
He’s super personable and clearly knows his stuff. Also have to shout out Jackie at the front desk! She’s the sweetest and makes the whole place feel welcoming the second you walk in.
They also offer massage therapy (haven’t tried it yet, but it’s on my list)! If you’ve been on the fence or had an iffy experience before, this is your sign.
Dr. Zimmerman is one of the best Chiropractors I have ever been with. He is engaging and truly listens to his patients. I highly recommend Bear Chiropractic.
You can tell Dr. Aaron cares about each patient and their specific needs. He is extremely knowledgeable and goes above and beyond when it comes to treating a patient.
